DESCRIPTION The Morphos are Neotropical butterflies found mostly in South America. This male Morpho has a wingspan of up to 7.5cm and is a small but delicate member of the morpho genus. There are 29 species of Morpho. Their iridescent colouring is a result of the microscopic scales on the wings which reflect light. The underside is a dull brownish colour usually with various eyespots which deter predators when wings are closed and also provide great camouflage when perched on trees or bushes.
