DESCRIPTION AKA Vampire butterfly / Bat wing butterfly. Stunning intense red and velvet black coloured butterfly. The male is smaller than that of the female which shows fringing on the hind wings. This butterfly is poisonous to predators due to the host plants the larvae eat. The red body advertises the fact it is poisonous. It can be often seen in bush land feeding on nectar from common bushes such as Lantana. This is a spectacular butterfly.
