DESCRIPTION  Large brown white striped antlion. Although superficially resembling a dragon or damselfly, antlions are actually Neuroptera insects in the family Myrmeleontidae. They differ from dragons and damsels in having clubbed antenna. As juveniles this furry cockroach - like insect digs conical holes in soft sand which traps ants which it then pounces on. Later in life they grown wings but aren't known as great flyers. Australia has several species found in sandy habitats.
