DESCRIPTION Big mandibles on this giant sized malelucanid AKA Stag beetle. The menacing mandibles are used when males are fighting over territory or females. Note the lovely rich copper colour on the elytra. These beetles feed on rotten fruit or tree sap whilst the larvae feed on rotting wood. The female is overall smaller than the male.
